Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing (with optional Mayonnaise)
20 mins prepServes 10
A rich and flavorful blue cheese dressing recipe, which includes instructions for making mayonnaise from scratch. For the best taste, it's recommended to let the dressing sit overnight in the fridge to allow the flavors to fully develop.
First, make your mayonnaise (optional). Combine the egg yolks, 1 tablespoon white vinegar, a pinch of salt, a tiny lemon squeeze, 0.5 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, and 1.25 cups of a neutral oil. Use an immersion blender in a cup or jar and blend until you achieve a mayonnaise consistency. If you're skipping homemade mayo, use 1 cup of store-bought mayonnaise.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the blue cheese dressing ingredients: 6-8 oz blue cheese, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup mayonnaise (either homemade or store-bought), 1/3 cup white wine vinegar, 0.5 tablespoon Bleu Cheese Wing Salt, 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder, 0.5 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon sugar, and salt and pepper to taste.
If possible, let the dressing sit overnight in the fridge. This allows the flavors to fully develop and meld together, resulting in a richer and more delicious dressing.
